Union Parish Release Records
A person has not necessarily returned to the community just because a name no longer appears among current inmates. Union Parish Detention Center can release a local detainee on bond, carry out a court order, record time served, or transfer the person to another agency. A state prisoner housed at the same Rodeo Circle site may move within the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections system. Federal or immigration authorities may also assume custody. Each event removes the person from one custodian, but only some are community releases.
The record trail depends on the event. Union Parish Police Jury operates the detention center through a jail commission. The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office handles local bond paperwork and supplies the official inmate app, but it expressly says it does not operate the jail. The Union Parish Clerk of Court keeps the durable Third Judicial District case record. DPS&C holds state sentence and supervision information. Those divided roles make an agency label, date, and release type essential parts of any sound result.
Important: A name disappearing from “Current Inmates” is a lead. It does not prove community release, the release reason, or freedom from another hold.
Union Parish Inmate Release Types
Release terms have distinct meanings. Bond ends the current jail hold subject to the pending case and bond terms. It does not dismiss the charge. Time served means the responsible authority calculated that the custodial part was met, although another case or detainer can still prevent departure. Parole is conditional release from prison before sentence expiration. Probation usually follows a suspended or deferred custodial outcome. A full-term discharge generally means the stated custody and supervision have ended.
| Record term | What it means | Next place to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Jail custody ends while the court case remains open | UPSO bond papers, UPDC release entry, and Clerk minutes |
| Time served | The calculated custodial term is satisfied | Facility release entry and sentence record |
| Parole | Prison custody changes to conditional community supervision | DPS&C/LAVNS and the assigned district office |
| Probation | Court-ordered community supervision applies | Clerk judgment and DPS&C supervision information |
| Transfer | The person left one site but remained in custody | Receiving jail, DPS&C, BOP, USMS, or ICE |
| Dismissal or discharge | A legal case or sentence reached a stated endpoint | Certified court record or corrections discharge record |
Other departure codes also demand care. A hospital move, escape, death, release to another agency, or immigration detainer is not the same as a routine return home. Record the exact phrase used by the custodian. Then identify the receiving authority, if any. This preserves the difference between leaving UPDC and leaving all government custody.
Note: Court-ordered release, bond posting, physical departure, supervision start, and sentence discharge may all have different dates.
Union Parish Release Record Fields
A complete Union Parish release record links a person, a booking episode, and a departure. It should identify the source agency and use a booking, case, or corrections number where possible. Name alone is weak evidence because spellings, suffixes, and aliases vary. Date of birth, booking number, DPS&C number, or court case number helps prevent two people from being combined.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Full name and identifiers | The person tied to the event, including aliases or agency number when maintained |
| Booking number and date | The exact custody episode rather than a prior arrest with a similar name |
| Arresting agency and charges | Who began the episode and which allegations were recorded at booking |
| Release date and exact time | When the releasing facility processed the departure |
| Release type or code | Bond, time served, parole, court order, transfer, or another stated basis |
| Destination or recipient | Whether the person entered the community or another agency’s custody |
| Bond and case number | The link to payment paperwork and the Third Judicial District record |
| Supervision or detainer | Conditions or another hold that continued after departure from the facility |
| Property receipt | The maintained record of personal property returned at release |
The release entry answers the operational question: when and how did the person leave? The Clerk record answers the legal question: what did the court order, and what happened to the case? DPS&C records answer state sentence and supervision questions. The strongest confirmation reconciles these sources instead of treating any one system as a complete life history.
Where Union Parish Bond Releases Exit
Union Parish documents a distinctive physical exit for Third Judicial District bond releases. After bond paperwork is handled, UPDC transports the detainee to the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office. The person then leaves through the UPSO front lobby. The Sheriff’s official FAQ supports that sequence, so the UPDC gate and the public exit need not be the same place.
This fact applies only to the documented local bond route. It must not be extended to time-served departures, court-ordered unsecured releases, state-prison discharges, medical moves, transfers, or immigration custody. For those events, the source record must identify the true releasing site and any receiving custodian.
Union Parish Bond Release Costs
The local process begins by calling UPDC for current charges and bond information. A bondsman may then be used, or the amount may be paid through the stated local process. UPSO completes the bond papers and collects the funds. It states that each bond carries a $30 fee per charge. Cash and money orders are accepted, while checks and debit cards are not accepted for bonding.
Preserve both halves of the trail. Ask UPSO for bond paperwork and any front-lobby release entry it maintains. Ask UPDC or the Police Jury for the detention release screen, actual departure time, and transfer details. The Clerk’s case record can establish the judge’s bond order and later disposition. A bond release means the person left custody under terms. It does not mean the case ended.
Request Union Parish Release Records
Start with the custodian that holds the exact record. UPSO accepts records requests by mail, email, telephone, or in person for Sheriff-held arrest, report, bond, and related material. Its records office is at 710 Holder Road, Farmerville, LA 71241; telephone 318-608-3017; fax 318-368-7817; email records@unionsheriff.com. The office asks for the requester’s name and phone number, event date, location, and report type, and asks requesters to allow five business days after needed information is supplied.
The UPSO Records page publishes $10 for other reports, with $1 per page after five pages. Printed photos cost $1 per paper page, and CD or digital media costs $10 each. It does not list a special booking-photo price. Ask for an estimate and native electronic delivery where available. The source screen below shows the local request channels, timing target, and fee schedule.
The image helps identify the Sheriff’s published process, but detention release logs may belong elsewhere because UPSO does not operate UPDC.
Use the Union Parish Police Jury request form for the UPDC booking or release ledger, jail-management entry, transfer document, property receipt, or maintained booking photo. Written requests may also be made at the Police Jury Annex, 303 East Water Street, Farmerville. Its policy describes an initial response within five days, excluding weekends and legal holidays. That is an initial-response process, not a promise that every record will be produced by the fifth day.
- Identify the person with full legal name, date of birth if known, and a booking or case number.
- State the narrow booking date or date range and name each existing record sought.
- Ask for actual release date and time, release or transfer code, public destination, and related bond material.
- Request electronic form, a cost estimate before copying, and referral to the proper custodian for items not held.
- Compare the response with the court, DPS&C, or receiving-agency record before stating a final status.
Note: Ask for existing records, not an agency-created explanation of why a release occurred or a new custom report.
Union Parish Release Record Law
Louisiana’s Public Records Law begins at R.S. 44:1, and R.S. 44:31 sets out the right of access. Records can still contain parts that must be withheld or redacted, including protected juvenile information, sealed or expunged material, medical data, victim or witness details, qualifying active-investigation material, security information, and confidential corrections records. Requesting segregable public fields is more precise than assuming either total access or total secrecy.
R.S. 44:3 keeps the initial officer report, the Code of Criminal Procedure article 228 booking record, summons or citation record, and filed bill of information public even while it protects specified pending material. Article 228 lists booking details such as legal name, property taken, booking date and time, charges, arresting person, and a short factual account. It does not expressly make release time, release reason, or a photo mandatory booking-summary fields, so name those items separately.
For retention, R.S. 44:36 provides a general preservation floor of at least three years when no other law or approved schedule applies. That floor does not prove UPDC keeps every data field for exactly three years. It does show why an app’s short display life and an agency’s underlying record retention are different. Louisiana expungement removes qualifying arrest and case records from public access without destroying them. A sealed or expunged result should be respected rather than reconstructed from old copies.
Find Union Parish Released Inmates
Begin with the last known custodian. For someone last held at UPDC, check the official Union Parish Sheriff app and call UPDC at 318-368-9827. Ask whether the person is presently held. If not, ask which existing release or transfer record identifies the departure date, time, type, and receiving agency. This phrasing avoids turning roster absence into an unsupported release claim.
- Match full name with date of birth, booking number, case number, or another official identifier.
- Check the Sheriff app for current UPDC custody and call the facility for a point-in-time answer.
- If bond was involved, obtain UPSO bond papers and compare them with the UPDC departure entry.
- If transferred to state custody, search DPS&C/LAVNS and read the status and date labels exactly.
- Search the Union Parish Clerk record for bond, disposition, sentence, dismissal, or discharge orders.
- Use BOP, the federal court record, ICE/ERO, or the receiving jail when the custody path left the parish system.
- Submit a narrow request when the online or telephone path cannot supply the operative release record.
For an event that has not happened, the Sheriff app’s name or date-of-birth alert and LAVNS/VINELink can supply notice. Once an alert arrives, return to the agency record. For a dated recent window, the Released Last 24 Hours process explains how to request the maintained UPDC log because Union Parish has no official rolling web feed.
Louisiana Released Offender Search
The DPS&C Offender Information page is the official state front door. It directs online users to Louisiana’s LAVNS/VINELink system and gives a telephone route. Use a DPS&C number when known. Otherwise search with full name and date of birth, then match the number, age, location, and conviction context before treating a result as the same person.
The state tool fits a person sentenced to DPS&C custody, including a state prisoner placed at UPDC’s Transitional Work Program. It is not a Union Parish booking archive. A local detainee who posted bond without entering state custody may have no state-prison result. Read “in custody,” “parole,” “supervision,” “discharged,” and any date label exactly as shown. A projected or tentative date is not an actual release timestamp.
The official instructions displayed below also warn that public information can change and should be verified with the department.
This state channel can confirm prison or supervision status, while UPDC and the Police Jury remain the source for a local detention departure.
- Projected release date
- An estimate based on sentence data and credits, not proof of actual departure.
- Parole
- Conditional community release before the sentence expires, with DPS&C supervision.
- Discharge
- The recorded end of the stated custody or supervision obligation.
- Detainer
- A hold or request from another authority that can prevent community release.
Union Parish Court Release Proof
The Union Parish Clerk serves the Third Judicial District and keeps a record that can outlast a current-inmate display. Search the Clerk’s official site and its linked Image & Index Search by defendant, then verify case number, charge, and event dates. Relevant documents can include a bond order, minute entry, disposition, sentence, commitment, jail-credit entry, probation order, revocation, dismissal, satisfaction, or public expungement order.
The online criminal index interface shown below helps locate the durable case file after a person disappears from the Sheriff app.
A clerk document establishes what the court ordered. It may not state the exact moment the jail completed processing, so pair it with the UPDC release entry.
That difference matters. A judge may issue an order hours before physical departure. Dismissal in one case may not clear another hold. DPS&C sentence credits may also produce a date not fully narrated in the docket. When dates conflict, retain each date with its label. A certified Clerk copy proves the document is part of the court record, but it does not turn an order time into a gate time.
Who Holds Union Parish Releases
Union Parish’s multi-custodian structure is not a technical detail. It controls where an effective request goes. The Police Jury operates UPDC. UPSO processes local bonds, keeps Sheriff-held reports, and supplies the public mobile app. The Clerk maintains the court file. DPS&C covers state sentences and supervision. Sending a broad request to one office can yield only part of the record or a referral.
Who has the exact release record? The answer follows the record, not merely the arresting badge. Ask UPSO for its arrest report, bond paperwork, and lobby-release material. Ask the Police Jury or UPDC for the jail release screen, release or transfer code, exact time, destination, and property record. Ask the Clerk for orders and minutes. Ask DPS&C for releasable state status and discharge fields.
This split also explains why two correct official sources may show different facts. They may record different stages of one custody path. Keep the agency name beside each event and reconcile them before drawing a conclusion.
Union Parish Release Alerts
The official Sheriff web inventory does not provide a browsable 24-hour or 72-hour released-inmate list. As of the July 20, 2026 research review, the public local digital channel was the Union Parish Sheriff LA app. Its listing describes “Current Inmates” booked at UPDC and a name or date-of-birth alert that can notify a user when the named person is booked or released. The listing does not promise an archive, release reason, fixed refresh rate, or former-inmate retention period.
Louisiana’s statewide layer is LAVNS, also known in current state material as LAVINE, through VINELink. Search one person, match identifying data and facility, then select an offered notification method. A release alert is useful, but it is not a certified release document. Call the source facility and request its underlying record. For a state-imprisoned person, DPS&C also identifies separate LAVO enrollment for specified projected and actual release notices.
Note: An “out of custody” event from one participating agency may reflect transfer, so verify the destination before calling it community release.
Union Parish Custody Versus Release
Use the system that matches the custody type. A current roster or app answers who is displayed now. A release record answers how a specific custody episode ended. A court record explains the legal order. State and federal locators cover their own systems and do not replace the local jail record.
| Situation | Best starting source | What still needs confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Currently at UPDC | Sheriff app and UPDC telephone | Identity, present status, charges, and bond |
| Left UPDC | Police Jury/UPDC release or transfer entry | Community release versus receiving custodian |
| Bond release | UPSO bond papers and lobby record | UPDC gate time and Clerk order |
| State sentence or parole | DPS&C/LAVNS | Exact status label, actual date, and supervision office |
| Federal sentence | BOP Inmate Locator | Other holds and federal court disposition |
| Immigration custody | ICE ODLS and ERO | Current detention, transfer, removal, or community status |
The Parole / Probation record path is useful only when supervision is actually indicated. Arrest in Union Parish alone does not prove that Monroe District supervises the person.
Union Parish Federal Release Checks
A transfer into federal or immigration custody is a new custody event. For a federal sentence, search the BOP Inmate Locator by register number or name, with age, race, and sex as optional matching fields. Many former federal prisoners remain listed with a release date and a released or noncustody description. A past BOP release date proves departure from BOP custody on that date, not freedom from supervised release, state custody, or immigration custody.
USMS often houses federal pretrial prisoners in contract facilities, but it does not offer the same public historical locator. A person transferred from Union Parish before federal sentencing may not yet appear in BOP. Use the federal court docket or clerk to confirm bond, detention, dismissal, or sentencing, then check BOP if sentenced custody followed.
ICE’s Online Detainee Locator is mainly a current-custody tool. Search by A-number plus country of birth, or exact biographical information. No result does not certify release, removal, or transfer. Contact the responsible ERO field office when the locator cannot resolve the status. These channels should never be blended into a Union Parish jail release claim.
Union Parish Release Facilities
Three local custody functions shape a Union Parish released inmate search. Their roles overlap in place or process, but the records are not interchangeable.
- Union Parish Detention Center (UPDC) holds local detainees and can document release or transfer through the Police Jury-operated facility.
- Union Parish Detention Center Transitional Work Program serves state corrections placements at the same address; DPS&C status and supervision systems apply to state prisoners.
- Farmerville Police Department holding function may cite, release, or deliver a person to UPDC; confirm where the arrest process ended before choosing the custodian.
No separately documented long-term Farmerville municipal jail, state prison, federal prison, or dedicated ICE detention facility was found physically in Union Parish during the official-source review. That negative finding does not rule out transfer to an out-of-parish, state, federal, or immigration facility. Follow the receiving custodian and preserve each handoff.
