Union Parish VINELink Coverage
Louisiana calls its statewide service the Louisiana Victims Notification Network, or LAVINE. Older official material and common use also call it LAVNS. The Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement LAVINE program works with sheriffs, district attorneys, and DPS&C. Its public online entry point is the Louisiana VINELink portal, with telephone access at 1-866-528-6748.
The network can carry parish-jail and state-corrections information from participating agencies. It should not be described as guaranteed coverage of every Farmerville Police holding event. If a Farmerville arrest led to booking at Union Parish Detention Center, use the Union Parish agency record. A state prisoner at the same detention-center address may instead appear under DPS&C. Federal BOP and immigration custody require their own locators.
Union Parish also has an official Sheriff mobile app that lists current UPDC inmates and offers a name or date-of-birth event alert. That app is a separate local channel. Its public description does not promise a browsable released-person archive, fixed refresh interval, or historical retention period. When both the app and VINELink carry an event, preserve each notice and seek the same underlying UPDC release or transfer entry.
R.S. 15:1229 establishes the Louisiana system and disclaims guarantees of accuracy, timeliness, or completeness. That limit is practical. An agency sends an event, VINELink processes it, and the public view updates. The physical release may occur before or after a screen refresh.
Search One Union Parish Inmate
A one-person search begins with custody classification. Someone last known at UPDC should be checked against the local agency information. A person transferred into state custody belongs in the statewide DPS&C path. VINELink is not a substitute for a broad recent-release list, and Union Parish does not publish a separate official 24-hour or 72-hour web archive.
- Open Louisiana in VINELink and choose the person or custody search, not the court-case search.
- Enter the full legal name or a known offender or defendant number. Try a careful spelling variant only when the first search fails.
- Compare the birth date, agency number, location, age, and any other public identifier. Do not select a match based on a common name alone.
- Open the correct record and transcribe the exact status, location, and any scheduled or expiration date label. Record the date and time checked.
- If the result reports release or a location change, call the contributing agency and request the source release or transfer record.
An empty result is not proof of release. It can reflect spelling, lag, municipal coverage limits, juvenile exclusion, a transfer, or a record no longer shown. For a known Union Parish episode, the Union Parish released-inmate record path adds UPDC, Police Jury, Sheriff, clerk, and state sources.
Note: Search by DPS&C number when available because names, spellings, and aliases can produce uncertain matches across Louisiana records.
Union Parish VINELink Release Fields
A live person record may show status, location, identifying details, and a scheduled or expiration date. Labels differ by the agency that supplies the data. Copy the exact words. Do not convert “out of custody” into “released to the community” unless the source record confirms that result, since transfer from UPDC to DPS&C also ends display at one agency.

For state sentences, DPS&C may distinguish prison custody, parole or community supervision, and discharge. A parole status means physical release from prison while the sentence continues under conditions. A discharged status may support completed state custody. Neither field is a historical Union Parish booking record for someone who only bonded out locally.
A scheduled date is not proof that release occurred. Sentence papers may arrive late, credits may change, and a detainer may shift the person to another custodian. If the date passes while the status still reports custody, contact the responsible agency. If the status changes first, obtain the departure entry and ask which legal mechanism produced it.
Register Union Parish Release Alerts

- For automated voice calls, create a four-digit PIN. Enter it when the call arrives to acknowledge receipt.
- Complete any email or interface confirmation, save the registration record, and update the service if contact details change.

Confirm Union Parish VINELink Releases
A VINELink alert is a lead, not a certified release document. Match it to the live record, then ask the source agency whether the event was community release, bond release, transfer, or another change. For UPDC, call 318-368-9827 and seek the detention release or transfer entry from the proper custodian. The Union Parish Police Jury operates UPDC, while the Sheriff may hold arrest or bond records.
For a state prisoner, use the DPS&C offender information route and request releasable release or discharge fields when needed. A prospective date remains subject to sentence computation and credits. After the date passes, confirm actual release through the status, alert, assigned Probation and Parole office, and institutional release record.
Federal BOP custody is checked through the Bureau of Prisons locator. A person held before trial by the U.S. Marshals Service may not yet have a useful BOP record. Immigration detention uses ICE’s present-location tool. An absence in either system should be referred to the responsible agency rather than called a Union Parish community release.
Union Parish LAVINE Versus LAVO
Louisiana has two notification enrollments, and they should not be merged. LAVINE/VINELink supplies statewide custody inquiry and event alerts from participating agencies. DPS&C says registration in that network is not registration with the Louisiana Victim Outreach Program, known as LAVO.
The DPS&C LAVO registration process is the separate state-prison layer. DPS&C identifies LAVO for notices about a projected release date, actual release, transitional-work assignment, specified sentence changes, pardon or parole hearings, escape or recapture, and release by any means. This distinction is especially relevant in Union Parish because UPDC is also listed as a Transitional Work Program site.
Use VINELink as the broad custody lookup and alert starting point. Add LAVO when the matter concerns an eligible DPS&C state prisoner and the types of affirmative notice that program supplies. Note: Two people at the same UPDC address can require different notification paths when one is local and the other is in state custody.
Preserve Union Parish Release Evidence
Save the alert, the person-record status, and the check time. Then obtain the record that explains the event. A jail departure entry can supply physical date and time. A court order can show bond, sentence, or disposition. DPS&C can supply the public state-custody status, while a district office can guide a lawful supervision inquiry.
Do not rely on an alert alone for personal safety or legal proof. A transfer can look like release from one agency. A delayed alert may arrive after the actual event, while a public screen can refresh at another time. Reporting both dates with clear labels is more accurate than choosing one without support.
For older Union Parish cases, the clerk’s criminal index can outlast an app or notification screen. It may preserve the judge’s order and later disposition, though it may not show exact gate time. The facility or corrections release record remains the operational source for that detail.
Identity needs the same care as event timing. A shared name is not enough. Compare the birth date, offender number, location, and custody context, then keep a copy of the public fields that supported the match. If identifiers conflict, stop and ask the agency for the record tied to the known booking or case number. That approach avoids attaching another person’s release event to a Union Parish case.
Older records may also disappear from a live lookup. DPS&C public information is not promised as an indefinite archive, and the Union Parish app is described as a current-inmate tool. A targeted request for an existing release or discharge extract is the sound fallback. Give the agency a narrow date range and ask for the actual date, release type, releasing facility, and supervision start or end fields that are public.
A court record may add the legal reason for a change. The Union Parish Clerk can preserve a bond order, sentence, disposition, or later minute entry after a live custody screen changes. It still may not show exact gate time, so pair it with the agency departure record.
